چکیده
We appreciate the feedback provided, and would like to address the highlighted concerns. The authors suggest that the included studies represent a small sample of the available literature. The studies included in our review were selected in a systematic and unbiased manner using comprehensive search of the published literature and pre-defined eligibility criteria. We do acknowledge that this economic analysis, like many others, is limited by the available data [1–4]. Many cost-effectiveness analyses use data from a single primary investigation, or combine cost an efficacy data from several identified studies, which is similar to our approach [2, 4–6]. As suggested by the authors, we accounted for the number of injections in our costing of each product. Despite this, the assumption that the authors of the editorial have made in their calculations assumes that all products have comparable efficacy, which is not accurate. Cost-effectiveness analyses consider differences in both cost and effectiveness. Assuming that the effectiveness is comparable is a cost-minimalization analysis, which is not appropriate when there are differences in both cost and effectiveness among the therapies compared. Utility scores derived from our included studies [7–11], as well as recent meta-analyses [12, 13], demonstrate considerable differences in efficacy that have been suggested to be due to product characteristic differences, such as molecular weight and production process. For this reason, we do not believe the authors’ calculations looking strictly at product costs is J. Important Considerations When Determining the Cost-effectiveness of Viscosupplements in the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis: Letter to the Editor regarding Rosen, J., Sancheti, P., Fierlinger, A. et al. Adv Ther (2016) 33: 998. doi:10.1007/s12325-016-0331-8
The economic costs of knee osteoarthritis (OA) and its treatment are important considerations for patients, physicians, and healthcare systems when making decisions about the management of knee OA, especially given the direct costs associated with total knee replacement (TKR) [1, 2], and the estimated increase in demand by 2030 projected for TKR in the United States (673% increase from 2005 for...

متن کاملEffectiveness Of Continuous Versus Pulsed Short-Wave Diathermy In The Management Of Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomised Pilot Study
Background: Short-wave diathermy (SWD) is an electrotherapeutic modality used in the conservative treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Electromagnetic radiation delivered in continuous (cSWD) or pulse (pSWD) mode provides a deep heating effect on tissues. There is no consensus on outcomes of treatment with cSWD versus pSWD in KOA. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of cSWD ve...
متن کاملIdentifying Important Factors of Arthroplasty in Patients with Degenerative Knee Osteoarthritis Based on Association Rule Mining Approach
Background and Aim: Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) aims to reduce the pain and improve the quality of life of patients with progressive osteoarthritis. When the indication of patients' disease is established, this type of surgery should be performed as soon as possible because patients' late attendance increases surgical complications. Therefore, identification of factors influencing the choice ...
